Chateau La Sable White, petite M Luberon

APPELLATION: AOP Luberon

GRAPE VARIETIES: Rolle 80%, Marsanne 18%, Roussanne 2%

TERROIR: The vines are located in Cadenet, in the Luberon Natural Park. They are at altitude between 280 and 350 meters and surrounded by olive trees and oak trees. The soil is fresh and made of clay, on terraces well windswept and facing north-west, which makes it perfectly adapted for these white grape varieties.

WINE MAKING: Hand-harvest in small cases. Hand selection of the grapes. Light pressing of whole bunches, with a pneumatic press. Alcoholic fermentation for about 2 weeks at low temperature to protect flavours. Aging in stainless steal tanks on fine lees.

TASTING NOTES: Limpid, brilliant and crystalline, pale yellow colour with silver highlights. Expressive on the nose, this wine reveals intense aromas of peach and citrus. These fruity notes are enhanced by delicate floral notes. On the palate, this wine is well-balanced, with a full, fleshy attack that evolves towards greater freshness and liveliness, and a very elegant, saline finish.

The letter M comes from the vineyard location, a place called “Mauconseil”, across the road from La Sable, our original vineyard.

Chateau La Sable

Chateau La Sable

The estate was owned for several generations by a family from Forcalquier, near Manosque.

During the 19th century, the owner, Victor-Etienne Pascal, added the two towers that give the bastide its majestic look today.

His great-grand children sold the estate in 1964 to the Lembo family, who planted the first vines then. Their son in law, Bernard Delarozière, developed the vineyard until the acquisition by Virginie and Jean-Marc in 2017

The first vines were planted in 1967, with grape varieties typical for the region: Grenache, Carignan, Syrah and Cinsault.

In 1986, a winemaking facility was built, and it became one of the first independent wineries in the Luberon appellation!

We started a full restructuring of the vineyard when we arrived. We are replanting new vines to introduce new grape varieties such as the local white ‘’Rolle’’ (also called ‘’Vermentino’’) and the aromatic ‘’Clairette’’, and the Syrah and Grenache.

And we started our journey to organic viticulture and winemaking on the whole estate since 2018.
