Domaine Jean-Paul et Charly Thevenet

Domaine Jean-Paul et Charly Thevenet

Charly Thévenet, the son of Jean-Paul, is one of the young winemakers in Beaujolais that is gradually taking over from his father. In 2007 he started making his own wines in one of the more secret appellations of Beaujolais, Régnié. His father is one of the pioneers of organic/ nature winemakers, together with 3 others they started this in 1985 and were called the fabulous 4 of Beaujolais. Everything here is done without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Some of the vines are over 70 years old and dig very deep into to soils to reach the rock to extract the minerals for a structured wine. The gamay grapes are harvested fully ripe and winemaking is done using carbonic fermentation, the weight of the grapes crushes some of them and their start naturally their fermentation with the yeast that is present on the skin of the grapes. The wines are slightly filtered and then bottled, they offer lovely fruity characteristics and with age flavours of spice and flowers appear.
