Biodynamic winemaking is often called the next step up from organic although there are a lot of different steps that come into place. Bio-dynamic farming comes from an Austrian philosopher called Rudolf Steiner his past is controversial because he was linked to the Nazi regime at some point before being banned by them. His view of farming was that all activities that a vineyard requires are linked to the lunar cycle and that pruning or harvesting should be done on certain days. He also developed a lot of natural fertilizers made from cow horns or even cow manure that you would insert into the horns and then bury this for a year and when dug up spread it out over the land. These practices along with loads of others will enhance the health and richness of the soil and therefore result in a better grape to make the wine.
